Sumo Wrestling at the Elphinstone School Funfest, Sept. 2011

• Appoint someone to act as the Referee. All decisions of the Referee will be final.
• The aim is to force your opponent out of the circle (onto the inflatable ring) or make any part of their body (except soles of feet) touch the playing surface.
• Games are usually played as best of 3 or 5 bouts. The winner of the game moves to the next round against a new opponent until only 2 wrestlers remain. The winner of the final game is the Sumo Champion!
• The Referee will signal the start of the bout. Wrestlers will typically start eye to eye (helmets touching) at opposite ends of the circle in a bid to get an edge before the actual physical wrestle begins.
• The bouts are usually quite fast, lasting only a few seconds, although some matchups can go on for three or four minutes.
• Pushing, tripping, slapping and other body throws are commonly used in sumo.

The suits are well padded and along with the head protectors and padded mat the only thing you may hurt is your pride if you lose! However, here are some guidelines to avoid any unnecessary injuries:

• One person per suit; minimum 60" in height, and maximum 300 lbs.
• No hair pulling, or pulling on headgear
• No striking at the eyes
• No punching with a closed fist.
• No wrestling outside of the ring.
• Opponents should help each other up when they fall down, but don't lift by the head or chest. Use hands or lift under arms.
• Due to safety and hygienic reasons, appropriate clothing including closed toe shoes must be worn at all times by all participants while wearing sumo suits.
• It is each participant’s responsibility to ensure that they are adequately fit and healthy enough to participate. This activity is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant, has a heart condition or breathing conditions.
• All participants agree to act in a safe manner at all times while using rental equipment. Overtly aggressive force must not be used, particularly when there is a disparity in size or weight between competitors.

• Signed and completed Waiver form to be submitted before the commencement of the rental period; to be signed by parent/guardian if participant is under 18 years of age.
• Pickup by Bounce Off the Walls will not take place any later than 8:00pm.  Pickups required after that time will be subject to the full day rental fee, and will be picked up the next morning.  Alternately, you may drop off the suits at any time after 8pm (extra charges may apply).
• No jumping/bouncing on the inflated edges of the wrestling ring.
• All rental equipment including but not limited to Sumo suits, protective headwear, padded gloves, padded matting and inflatable ring are to be returned to Bounce Off the Walls in the same condition as at the commencement of the rental period. Replacement cost is $1500 per Sumo suit and $2500 for wrestling ring.
